NATIONAL RARE DISEASE WEEK 2026

Message of the President

My warmest greetings to the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc. (PSOD) as you lead the observance of the 17th National Rare Disease Week.

Work on rare diseases strengthens the entire health system. These conditions demand precision, early detection, and close coordination among specialists, institutions, and communities. That is why I commend the PSOD for its leadership in raising awareness, empowering patients and families, and helping bridge gaps between medical expertise, policy, and care delivery. When our system learns to respond effectively to rare and complex cases, it becomes more capable, more responsive, and better equipped to deliver quality care to all Filipinos.

The National Rare Disease Week brings this value into sharper focus. Greater awareness leads to earlier recognition of symptoms, more timely interventions, and sustained continuity of care for patients and families. It also shapes institutional practice-aligning research, policy, and support services with real patient experiences, and ensuring that no condition is overlooked simply because it is uncommon.

Rest assured, the government is committed to supporting your work by advancing research, expanding access to affordable and reliable diagnosis and treatment, and strengthening coordination among agencies serving Filipinos with rare diseases. Let us work closely together in building a Bagong Pilipinas where our health system is guided by equity, compassion, and respect for every life.

I wish you a meaningful observance of the National Rare Disease Week.

FERDINAND R. MARCOS, JR.
President of the Republic of the Philippines
