NATIONAL RARE DISEASE WEEK 2026
Message of the DSWD Secretary
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) expresses its full support for the 17th National Rare Disease Week led by the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders (PSOD), Inc.
With over 300 million people worldwide living with rare diseases, this is a pressing social concern that demands awareness and concrete action. In the Philippines, families caring for loved ones with rare disorders face significant challenges in accessing healthcare, social services, and sustainable support. This observance urges us to listen more closely and understand more deeply.
This year’s theme, “More Than You Can Imagine,” reflects the lived realities of the rare disease community. While these conditions may be rare, the struggles and strength of those affected are profound. Their stories must be heard, their needs addressed, and their dignity upheld.
We commend PSOD for its continued efforts to raise awareness and advocate for improved policies and services. Your work brings hope and reassurance to many families.
The DSWD remains committed to strengthening social protection and ensuring that vulnerable sectors, including persons with rare conditions, receive responsive and inclusive support. We will continue working with government and civil society partners to improve access to assistance, promote inclusion, and uphold the dignity of every Filipino.
As we observe the 17th National Rare Disease Week, may this serve as a time of awareness, solidarity, and shared responsibility. Together, let us advance compassion, inclusion, and meaningful support for every Filipino.
