PSOD joins 40th Nat’l Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week

The Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders (PSOD) joined the nation in observance of the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (NDRPW). This year’s theme of the NDRPW focuses on skills development and livelihood of persons with disability (PWDs) (“Kakayahan at Kasanayan para sa Kabuhayan tungo sa Kaunlaran”).

The observance of NDPRW is held every third week of July under Presidential Proclamation 361 (s. 2000). According to the proclamation, it is the nation’s interest to stimulate public awareness on the problems of disability, and encourage every citizen to take active responsibility in uplifting economic and social conditions of the PWDs of our society.

Following Republic Act 10747 or the Rare Diseases Act of the Philippines and its enactment in 2016, patients with rare diseases are considered as PWDs and will enjoy their rights and benefits. With this the PSOD as the national rare disease patient organization took part in this year’s celebration by setting up information booths and attending the week’s opening and closing ceremonies that were held in San Mateo, Rizal and SM Mall of Asia, respectively.#
